"It wasn't me!"

I just got off the phone with Sen. Majority leader Mark Norris. He said he knew nothing of the Pro Planned Parenthood language being added back into the budget (that he was carrying). Last he knew was the offensive language was taken out.

The last few days I have been going call to call to call on my phone trying to respond to all the questions from angry legislators who thought we had defunded Planned Parenthood and want to string some one up for doing this without approval.

  1. Conservatives: engaging in a poorly operated investigation to blame someone rather than just passing a new law to fix the problem.

  2. We do NOT want to fund Planned "Parenthood."

  3. The general assembly is out of session until Jan 2012. It is a little difficult to make a new law when they are not in session.

  4. Tenn. Code Ann. §23-3-105 and 107,[6] codifies the common law attorney-client privilege in Tennessee, which govern, nondisclosure of communications between a client and his or her attorney. Case law in Tennessee states that “[t]he communication must involve the subject matter of the representation and must be made with the intention that the communication will be kept confidential.”

Do citizens need to file a freedom of information request?
I would like to see the staff attorney declare, in writing, that the
legislator involved here specifically requested confidentiality.
If we have elected officials deliberately concealing legislative intent then it is time we learn the truth.

It's a shame those legislators were in so much of a hurry to stop working and go home that they didn't read the bill properly.
