Wow! The owner of the restaurant who refused me service on Sunday was just on the radio and bragged how she happily served the Klan members when they had a rally in Knoxville but she stands by refusing me service.
The people who serve the community from the private sector should also be held to a higher standard. Like say a restaurant owner. Knoxville deserves better from its business community. This kind of juvenile behavior should be limited to middle school students, not professional business people.
Okay, so this Martha Boggs hates Blacks and Catholics, two groups which the Klan has oppressed for decades, but she loves gays. Why does that not make sense to me?
Aren't Blacks and Catholics, for the most part, good people, "the salt of the earth?"
I bet that place will close down before long! No one will want to eat there, after she has made this awful mistake of refusing to serve someone as well known and highly honored as Senator Campfield!
Maybe someone will give her a job because they feel sorry for her.
...by you and people like you who want to impose their beliefs to the rest of the population.
My question is, and always will be: what do gay people remove from your "lifestyle"? What's your problem? Are you afraid some guy may make a pass at you? Are you afraid you would?
Are there not more urgent problems you could help resolve?
The tide seems to be turning...according to an article just posted by the Knoxville News Sentinel, Martha Boggs says she handled the situation the wrong way.
Hallerin Hilton Hill seems to agree, saying that some people on his radio show said that it doesn't matter what your views are, if you walk into a restaurant, don't discriminate against them just because you disagree with their views. Everybody respects him!
The article about Martha Boggs' regretting the way she treated Senator Campfield is on WBIR.COM, Channel 10, not in the Knoxville News Sentinel...or not yet, anyway...
At least the lady was honest about what she believed and how she felt. You hide your disdain for gay people behind a polite facade. How insensitive to ask Gay people to stay metaphorically in the closet. Your positions demonstrate either a clear lack of insight or empathy or perhaps more honestly how you truly feel about gay people. I am curious as to why you focus so much on gay people?
Well, the Klan is kind of gay so that must be good enough for her.
She's still a publicity whore. She should go the full nine. Put a sign over her menu that says "If you don't believe in gay marriage, don't eat at my restaurant." Based on the 2006 vote, that eliminates over 80% of the voting population in Tennessee. Politicize the whole place. 18% of your meal funds Planned Parenthood. Exercise your right to choose, the partial birth veal cutlet.
Darn good thing that no state or municipal law prevented discrimination on the issue of sexual orientation or Senator Campfield would have a cause of action against the restaurant for denying him service.
@skweeds, ever heard of a Senator from KY Robert Byrd, a bastion of the Democratic party... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20101111192031AA3XkBO
The lady was honest about how she felt and I'll be honest, I will not eat at her restaurant. I was almost raped by a homosexual. Homosexuals are more promiscuous and aggressive. Don't EVEN try to tell me otherwise, I was drugged and almost raped! If her restaurant is run by homosexuals, I won't eat there. If her restaurant is frequented by the KKK, I won't eat there. If she wants to proudly proclaim that her restaurant is gay friendly or whatever, the decision for me is very easy. I'll go somewhere else. Stacey says what's on his mind and sticks to his word.
she obviously said what was on her mind. Your great senator is a wack job. I was raped by a heterosexual man, he knew of my attraction to women so every time he assaulted me he would tell me "you think you like girls? I'll show you how much your wrong. He then forced me to tell him he was right, and he was the best. Everyone loved him in school so I could do nothing but cry of the womb raped empty. No one to hear me or even care because I am a lesbian and I was asking for it. I on the other hand have never been sexually attracted to a straight female. Dont worry I can pick the gays out from a mile away. I do however disagree with her serving the KKK that is wrong. Everyone was created equal and we should all be treated that way. I am a survivor of harassment in school growing up grades 6-12, I am a survivor of rape. I am an openly gay woman and I am proud to be alive. No one should be put through the life I've lived. I can only hope for our future generations that they can see like Martin Luther King said you cannot fight hate with hate you cannot end darkness with more darkness. only light and love can end this war
Unfortunately Stacey is having to endure a lot of critisism, well I support him, as does my family and friends. What kind of country do we live in, where a man/woman cannot voice an opinion without fear of backlash...this restaurant owner is twisted, narrow minded, and obviously has a chip on her shoulder displayed by her childish, regressive behaviour, she tried to emabarass him intentionally, but what she doesn't realize, is that she actually made a fool of herself . Never again will my family, nor a majority of our friends eat at her restaurant again....she sickens me. I agree with Stacey, there are certain things that just should not be taught in school, taxpayer money should be going toward subjects that are going to strengthen our youth intellectually, and prepare them for the future. Thank you Stacey, please keep up the good work, we have your back....and if only we had a president like you, what a better place the U.S. would be, a leader with values and morals, now that would be different
Big surprise. She is a publicity whore and an idiot. Plus the KKK also hates Catholics.
ReplyDeleteMembers of the KKK aren't elected government officials.
ReplyDeletePeople in office should be held to a higher standard.

DeleteApparently you've never heard of Senator Robert Byrd (D - WV).
DeleteAs I said, people in office should be held to a higher standard - regardless of party. If only the world were perfect.
DeleteKeep it clean, unless it's someone Campfield doesn't like.
ReplyDelete"Plus the KKK also hates Catholics."
ReplyDeleteYep, rather like Obama and Sebelius via their hatred by refusing to allow freedom of conscience on the part of Catholics lately.
KM
In which radio interview was this stated? Is there an archive of the interview?
ReplyDeleteOkay, so this Martha Boggs hates Blacks and Catholics, two groups which the Klan has oppressed for decades, but she loves gays. Why does that not make sense to me?

This woman sounds like "she ain't right!"

I am utterly disgusted...

Yuck!
It's possible the difference is that the KKK isn't in a position to propose legislation banning the rights of gay people, but you are.
ReplyDeleteIf you think your views are somehow less dangerous, you are deluded.

ReplyDeleteOh well who would want to eat in a gay restaurant anyway.

ReplyDeleteChrist, typical republicans you have to censor. So much for the first amendment. Suprise, suprise.
ReplyDeleteWell, the Klan is kind of gay so that must be good enough for her.

Don't half-step it, Preachy.

ReplyDeleteWhat are you talking about? Stacey is straight - not gay!
DeleteWhat are you - some kind of a bully? Bullies are not tolerated around here!
You bully Stacey and I'm coming after you!!!

ReplyDeleteStacey,
ReplyDeleteIs it too late to add a qualifier on that $100/plate-campaign-event-at-the-restaurant-of-your-choice wager?
