You want to go down that road? Fine.
After feeding for years at the pork trough for West Tennessee (as they stuck it to East Tennessee) some of the Dems tried to play old games yesterday one last time. Not that there was a bunch, but the "Pork" that there was in the state budget, was spread around the state. A few Dems and some more conservative Republicans in house finance committee decided to go after some of the pork barrel projects for East Tennessee (brought up by the Democrats).
Not much in the big picture, About a million dollars worth of a 31 billion dollar budget. Not that they had any plan on what to do with the million dollars after it was cut, but it was more of a symbolic statement.
That's all well and good. When the dems started to make the moves a quick meeting was held. Notice was given that if deeper cuts were going to be made it was going to be across the state this year. Not just to East Tennessee. Staxx Records funding in Memphis? Not looking so good. That new mega site in Jimmy Naifehs old district? Do we really need that? PBS funding? The arts commission? Lets pull out the knives boys. We are ready to cut!!
We will see how serious the Democrats are about trimming fat later today. I say lets go for it. If it doesn't have a real state wide application I say it need a hard look and a sharp blade.
